Dear Neighbor, Shelter Island Resident Discount Rates are now available through the use of a FerryPass® card. The Resident rate to a qualified FerryPass holder for passengers is $1.50 per crossing. Residents will qualify if they have a Shelter Island address on their driver's license, pay Shelter Island Town property taxes, or hold a lease on a Shelter Island dwelling for 10 months or greater. Shelter Island FerryPasses will be accepted in our turnstiles for foot passengers or for a passenger fare in automobiles. As formerly sold tokens were sold at a discount, a round trip passenger fare in a vehicle will require two tokens for each passenger, with no money returned. The new resident passenger fare was made possible by tax relief legislation introduced by Assemblyman Marc Alessi and Senator Ken LaValle, and signed by Governor David Paterson.
